Senior Underwriter (12-month FTC)

Purpose of Role

Underwrite approved bridging loan applications including heavy refurbishment, commercial and complex loans within company lending criteria and within personal lending mandate. Ensure that the conditions of the Mortgage Illustration or Decision in Principle are adhered to, in full, throughout the processing of the application. Accurately assess the risk attributed to the application ensuring that the loan is both suitable and fit for purpose. Identify any potential fraudulent activity and escalate any concerns to compliance or financial crime. Communicate effectively with relevant parties on the loan, building successful working relationships with brokers, solicitors and valuers. Understand and assess credit reports, documentation relating to verification of employment/self-employment, KYC and valuation reports. Have the confidence to approve/decline applications in line with policy and to effectively communicate your decision to interested parties. Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers alike. Follow and keep up to date with current best practice and regulatory requirements in line with company training. Plays an integral part in supporting management with the training and development of the underwriting team and undertakes various additional responsibilities in support of the risk and control culture of the Bank. Shows a desire to expand existing underwriting knowledge into areas such as development finance.

  • Identifies areas of process waste which does not add value to the borrower or the Bank and provides clear and concise rationale for change

Entry

  • Minimum 3 years current underwriting to include having held a lending mandate for not less than 2 years and holding a current lending mandate in bridging finance
  • Hands-on knowledge of loan processing systems
  • Knowledge of regulation as it affects bridging loans and proven ability to implement those principles throughout the underwriting process
  • Experience of handling and processing complaints effectively to a standard required by the Bank
