Operational Risk Manager (up to 12-month FTC)

Purpose of Role

The role of the Risk Manager is to provide support to the Head of Operational Risk to oversee and monitor the effective management of risks within Masthaven (“the Bank”), and to work closely with the business areas in ensuring they effectively manage, report and take ownership  of risks and incidents and operate an effective control framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Head of Operational Risk in establishing, implementing and embedding effective risk management practices and culture throughout the Bank which enable the organisation to meet its strategic goals.
  • Support and assist Executive management and senior Managers with the identification of new emerging risks relating to regulatory, legislative and other market changes.  
  • Partner the Business Units to implement good operational risk practices including ensuring maintenance of Risk register and review and improvement of the control applied.
  • Provide support to the Business in implementing and embedding policies and procedures for the identification, classification, mitigation and measurement of risk.
  • Support the Business in embedding key operational risk management frameworks such Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) framework, Issue Management, outsourcing, internal and external Loss management, reporting and escalation, resilience and assurance plan.  
  • Provide appropriate challenge to senior management regarding their identification, classification, rating and control of risks.
  • Develop and deliver a programme of risk management training and awareness to ensure a robust risk culture throughout the Bank.
  • Assist the business in effective root cause analysis of incidents and operational risk losses.
  • Lead on ad hoc investigation for internal and external reporting delivering associated reporting in sensitive and constructive manner.
  • To abide by all financial crime related policies, procedures and reporting obligations applicable to their job

  •  The successful candidate will be an experienced Risk Manager with significant retail banking experience.
  • They will have a proven track record in partnering with the Business (1st Line).
  • The ability to successfully engage with and challenge stakeholders at a senior level, as well as experience in motivating and developing teams is essential
  • In particular the jobholder will have:
    • Exposure to the regulatory framework required to manage lending and deposit taking activities in the UK financial services market
    • Leadership experience to influence and challenge the business agenda to focus on risk agendas
    • Demonstrable Operational Risk experience, including the provision of creative and practical solutions
    • Experience and knowledge of best practice risk frameworks, methodologies and emerging practice including recent regulatory development
    • Experience of managing people and small teams
    • Sound understanding of the business environment
