Unsafe buildings let out for rent by landlords

A recent survey published by Homeless Charity Shelter has revealed that many landlords have been providing their tenants with houses in ill repair, and in many cases tenants have also been forcibly evicted out of their houses.

The survey that covered over 184 health officers brought to light how the landlords have been persistently letting out buildings that are badly in need of repair to make more money.

According to the survey, in one of the buildings they found a mother and child living in an apartment with no kitchen and no basic heating facilities except for a halogen heater.

Commenting about this situation, the Chief Executive of Shelter said, “Government needs to wake up to the reality of the problem and work with councils to develop a tough programme of action to root out rogue landlords,”

He also added, “The minority who do break the rules should be prosecuted and struck off immediately.”

Homeless Charity Shelter had also recently published a prediction that about 54,000 children living below poverty line would suffer a setback if the government revokes their housing benefits.
