Misleading property company facing wind up petition

Posted: September 24th, 2010

Another company is facing liquidation after the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation & Skills presented a petition in the High Court to wind up Britannia Land Management Ltd in the public interest.

Britannia Land Management sold plots of land to people who were contacted through a telesales agent from its team of salespersons.

The company was managed from Spain, but it also used addresses in London and Manchester.

The Companies Investigations of the Insolvency Service then carried out an investigation of Britannia under section 447 of the Companies Act 1985.

It was after this that the petition to wind up the company was presented to the High Court.

The Official Receiver has been appointed provisional liquidator of Britannia Land Management. It will now protect assets in the possession or under the control of the company while awaiting the outcome of the petition.

The provisional liquidator also has the authority to investigate the affairs of the company.

The case will be heard in the High Court next month on the 18 October, and until then no further information will be released.

The official Britannia Land Management website also displays a message with information about the provisional liquidation.

All public enquiries concerning the affairs of the company should be made to: The Official Receiver, Public Interest Unit, 2nd Floor, 3 Piccadilly Place, London Road, Manchester, M1 3BN, or alternatively people may ring 0161 234 8531.
