Government must assign top priority to affordable housing options

Lobby group PricedOut.org.co.uk has expressed its opinion that the new coalition government should assign top priority to the creation of more reasonable housing options for low-income families and newbie buyers. PricedOut.org.co.uk asserted that first-time property buyers and hordes of people on social housing waiting lists were currently anxious for support.

According to a research conducted by the National Housing Federation, the number of social homes constructed this year is expected to fall by 65 per cent. It is anticipated that this slump will be a direct result of public sector funding cuts and drastic changes in the planning system.

PricedOut.org.uk spokesperson Katy John has, however, stated that reducing the number of homes that are built for the needy ought to be the last option for saving money. Alternatively, she has insisted that the tax-breaks that buy-to-let investors presently benefit from, must be abolished. This move will result in savings of £1 billion every year, an amount that could be invested in building more affordable homes, the spokesperson believes.
