With the intention of preventing job losses in the regeneration sector, the British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA) has initiated BURA Connect. The scheme aims at hiring a group of self-employed regeneration employees and making concentrated efforts at offering them employment. The objective is to mitigate the effect of joblessness, as also policies that intend to cut down on public expenses.
Chairman of BURA, Jackie Sadek confessed that the regeneration sector has had a tough period during the downturn and jobless employees from the sector have had to resort to temporary employment for sustenance. He added that further reduction in public expenses would only aggravate the condition of such employees and also result in losing out on a set of highly talented staff members. Sadek likened BURA Connect to a support system in an environment where there is lack of proactive policymaking.
BURA Connect will follow a two-stage screening process of recruiting associates. Those who pass the screening test will become a part of its network of associates, who will then be offered employment on a day rate, as and when the need arises.
